It started with a dressing room and a bad day.

In October 2020, I went looking for something to wear to my son's wedding. Four hours. Three department stores. Eighteen outfits. I came home with a dress meant for a twenty year old and a feeling I'd been carrying for years and never named.

I sat in the parking lot and cried. Not because I couldn't find a dress, because I couldn't find myself.

I'd spent thirty years in this industry. I knew the patterns, I knew the makers, I knew what was possible. And I knew exactly why no one had made what I needed: the women buying clothes for women like me are twenty-six years old. They were guessing. And they were guessing wrong.

I called my best friend Margaret. She'd had the same week. Then my sister. Then my book club. Twelve women, twelve versions of the same story. We weren't alone we were millions, and nobody was making clothes for us.

So in the spring of 2021, I started in my apartment in Brooklyn with one blazer, one pair of trousers, and one promise: I would wear every piece before I sold it. If it didn't earn its place in my closet, it wouldn't earn yours.

Five years later, that's still the rule. Every fabric, every seam, every cap sleeve and side pocket. I road-tested it. On my body. In my real life. Through hot flashes, long flights, hard meetings, slow Sundays.

This is not aspirational fashion. This is fashion that earned its place. From me, to you. From one of us, to one of us.
